All public transport users crave for a comfortable and fast service. Portability: solution components do not have any dependency on network infrastructure and other computers. -Connectivity: Gate Access equipment can automatically be connected to the available GSM/CDMA network in the area. This capability increases manageability and monitoring from far by the head office manager. -Flexibility: Gate Access device can be configurated with ease to charge flat rates (similar rates for short and long distances) and zonal (the tariff charged depends on the distance). The SMTS solution consists of the following main components: the Contact less Smartcard based transport Card; Card contains certain nominal value which is automatically deducted whenever the owner uses the transport service. It is a very practical as the holder just has to bring it closer to the, card reader device (Gate Access equipment). The card does not even have to take the card out of the wallet/purse. Gate Access equipment; this equipment functions as the Transport Card reader as well as transport card user flow manager. On taking the transport card closer to the LCD screen, an amount in rupiah is deducted corresponding to transport service used, and displays the remaining balance on the card. The access door opens if the balance on the transport card is enough for the transport service to be undertaken. Smartcard will be adopted gradually over time in many parts of the world as a one card solution that is convenient, secure and multipurpose . Smartcard can be applied in many fields, such as academics, government, business and transportation. The transformation of the public transport sector toward an efficient, comfortable and cheap system, requires reliable information technology infrastructure.
